12:30-13:45 | Rolf Schrama - A Paralympians Journey

download (1).jpg

Rolf Schrama has a rare form of dwarfism. For most of his life, he just wanted to be just like everybody else. He studied, became an economist with a prestigious job on the Amsterdam Zuidas and ignored his limitations as best as he could. And then he quit his job and everything changed...

Small Stature - Great Achievement
Rolf's story of becoming a paralympic sailor is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of personal determination.

Rolf's life story is a lesson in personal leadership, embracing change, and finding greatness within. He inspires us to see beyond our limitations and explore the potential that lies in diversity and self-belief.

Join us for an inspiring session that promises to move and empower you to redefine the boundaries of what's possible for you. Don't miss the chance to transform your perspective and ignite your potential.

18:00-20:00 | Campfire Story Sharing

Join - Share - Listen - Connect

What better way to connect with new people and truly get to know one another than by sharing stories? Storytelling has always been a powerful means to connect and learn from each other throughout history. Yet, how often do we actually take the time to sit down, share, and deeply listen?

This is precisely what we aim to do in this interactive workshop - or, let's call it a campfire session - where everyone is encouraged to share and invited to listen.

The host of this session, Jantien, will guide you in crafting your own 'true story' and foster a safe environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing. Are you eager to connect with your fellow students on a deeper level? Join us! We're excited to hear your story.

08:30-10:00 | Workshop Navigating Polarisation

In a world increasingly divided, mastering the art of navigating polarization is not just a skill—it's a necessity.

Scientists typically don't share personal opinions, but nowadays they are often asked to make clear-cut choices or pick a side, especially online. This pressure is increasing and can be uncomfortable or even feel unsafe.

Remain resilient in a divided field
What should you do when others use your research to support their arguments, sometimes misusing it or for the wrong reasons? What does it take to remain resilient as a scientist in a divided field? These are questions that might be relevant for your future career, but also in daily life right now.

How to recognise and handle polarisation
What happens when you find yourself in the middle of polarisation in your social circle, family or university? While you can't solve it, it can be beneficial to recognise, and understand your role and have tools to deal with polarisation. Join this workshop and learn how to use these tools!

Time 08:30 - 10:00h
Organiser Laura Witlox and Inge Wallage
Location Impulse Innovation
Registration FREE and open to everyone - No registration needed

<<< TEA & COFFEE INCLUDED >>>

About the workshop | WUR works closely with polarisation expert and philosopher Bart Brandsma. He has been working on the phenomenon for decades, with his 'Polarisation Thought Construct’ at its core. In 90 minutes we dive into this thought construct.
