The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) is well known in the Netherlands. Everyone knows the KNMI weather forecasts, but the institute does a lot more. The KNMI is the national data and knowledge center for weather, climate and seismology. The KNMI is responsible for the public infrastructure for observing and modeling of meteorological and seismological parameters. The KNMI provides general forecasts and warnings for hazardous weather conditions and monitors the climate and provides climate change scenario’s for the Netherlands. Moreover, the KNMI is designated to provide weather services to the Dutch aviation sector and information and advices on seismological events.

The institute provides operational services on a 24 hours a day and 7 days a week basis. In support of the operational services KNMI conducts scientific research in the field of weather, climate and seismology . The combination of infrastructure, technology, science and service is unique in the field of weather, climate and seismology. Worldwide KNMI works closely with other meteorological institutes and research organizations.
