The WIAS Science committee is glad to inform you that the WIAS Science Day 2018 will be held on Monday 5th of February in Orion. The event will start at 08.30 with a warm welcome.
The theme for this day is “WIASS: Work on your Impact in Animal Sciences and Society”. Societies are changing over time, and so is science. Clearly, these processes are not independent and a strong interaction between science and society is important for various reasons. We are living in an era where everyone is overwhelmed with information and where ‘fake news’ and ‘alternative facts’ influence the public understanding of science. As scientific community, it is our responsibility to provide accurate and trustworthy information, to help distinguish facts from fiction. At the same time, there is no science without society. Societal needs and interests have been and remain the driving force of research. In the field of animal sciences, ‘society’ not only consists of the general public, but also includes industry, NGO’s, farmers, and governmental bodies. But how do we balance the needs of these stakeholders when determining the direction of our research? And once we have socially relevant results, how do we effectively communicate them to society? And how do we measure societal impact?
We are pleased to inform you that two renowned keynote speakers will address these questions, Dr. Ir. Arnold Van Vliet and Prof. Dr. Ir. Jaap Schouten.
Registration is closed.
The WIAS Science day is a great opportunity for PhD candidates to present their results by means of an oral or poster presentation. For those who are currently writing their PhD-proposal, there is the opportunity to present by means of a poster. At the end of the day, prizes will be awarded for the best poster and oral presentation.
