Conditions Study Exchange & Erasmus+

On this page you can find all the requirement for students who want to participate in an exchange program for study and the requirements to apply for an Erasmus+ grant and travel allowance.

General exchange requirements

  • You are registered as a full-time student at Wageningen University (nationality is not of influence!).
  • You have successfully passed all first year courses of your BSc before the start of your exchange. If you have not passed your first year BSc courses before the application deadline (Febr. 1st) you can still apply, but you will get a lower priority during the selection. You need to pass the examinations before the start of your exchange period, otherwise your exchange will be cancelled (keep in mind that any potential costs you might have are at your own expense). You prefarably obtained 120 ECTS before you go on exchange.
  • Correct application for Erasmus+.

    Additional requirement for exchange outside EU

    • Grade point average (GPA) mininum 7.0.

    Additional requirements for the Erasmus+ grant & travel allowance proviced by WUR.

    • You will not use the scholarship for expenses that are already covered by another scholarship.

    • You will not apply for other EU scholarships during your exchange period.

    • The exchange period has a minimum duration of 3 months and a maximum of 12 months

    • The total amount of months you can go on Erasmus Exchange in the same cycle (BSc, MSc or PhD) is 12 months

    • If your stay exceeds more than 5 days in duration compared to the original duration mentioned on your signed grant agreement, you need to file for an extension period (please contact your exchange coordinator for more information).

    Waiting list

    In case the number of applications exceeds the Erasmus budget for that year, some students will be put on a waiting list.

    Please note that we cannot guarantee that all students on the waiting list will receive a (partial) scholarship, but we do guarantee that all applicants will receive the contribution for the travel costs if you hand in all required Erasmus documents. Students on the waiting list will receive the travel allowance after their return.

    Waiting List Conditions

    2016-2017

    The procedure for distributing the scholarships is as follows (for selection criteria see below):

    • Students who applied for the Erasmus grant for STUDY OR TRAINEESHIP and return to their country of origin will be put on the waiting list (for example a German student going on exchange to Germany).
    • Students who applied for an exchange period for STUDY after May 10 th 2016 AND/OR did not hand in their Erasmus grant application before the application deadline (June 1st for the first semester and November 1st for those who leave in February or later) will be put on a waiting list.
    • Students who apply for the Erasmus grant for TRAINEESHIP and start their internship between September 1st 2016 and May 31st 2017 will be put on a waiting list.
    • Students who applied for exchange period for STUDY before May 10th 2016 AND who handed in their Erasmus grant application before the application deadline (June 1st for the first semester and November 1st for those who leave in January or later) AND who do not return to their country of origin AND who did not receive an Erasmus scholarship before, will receive a maximum of 4 months Erasmus scholarship per semester.

    The budget still available by June 2017 will be distributed among the students on the waiting lists according to the following selection criteria (from top to bottom highest to least priority):

    • Students who applied for an exchange period for STUDY after May 10th
    • Students who applied for TRAINEESHIP and do not receive a compensation of any kind, do not return to their country of origin, have met all deadlines and have not received an Erasmus+ scholarship before
    • Students who have already received an Erasmus scholarship before (for STUDY or TRAINEESHIP)
    • Students who are doing their STUDY in their country of origin
    • Students who handed in their grant application (STUDY and TRAINEESHIP) after the deadline
    • Students who are doing their TRAINEESHIP/THESIS in their country of origin
    • Students who applied for an exchange period for STUDY (courses) after May 10th in their country of origin
    • Students who receive a contribution in kind for their TRAINEESHIP/THESIS (see Learning Agreement)
    • Students who receive financial support for their TRAINEESHIP/THESIS (see Learning Agreement)
    • Students who apply for an additional scholarship for an extension of their STUDY/TRAINEESHIP period
    • Students who applied for a traineeship for after graduation

    Please note that we cannot guarantee that all students on the waiting list will receive a (partial) scholarship, but we do guarantee that all applicants will receive the contribution for the travel costs if you hand in all required Erasmus+ documents.

    2017-2018

    • Students who apply for additional scholarship for an extension of their study period
    • Students who completed their grant application after the deadline (including OLS-test)
    • Students who did not apply for additional scholarship for an extension of their exchange period, but their stay exceeded more than 5 days in duration compared to the original duration mentioned on their signed grant agreement

        The decision about how the remaining money will be distributed (if any money is left) will be made in the end of May 2018.
