Do you wish you were able to speak English more fluently during your studies? Do you sometimes struggle with clear or accurate pronunciation in English? Does your accent get in the way of good communication? Would you like to sound more natural when speaking English?
This online course helps you to improve all aspects of pronunciation – individual sounds, your intonation, your emphasis points in speech, and sounding more natural when speaking English. It also offers plenty of opportunities for fluency practice and feedback on your use of English.
This course is taught entirely online using the Virtual Classroom in Brightspace.
English Speaking & Pronunciation 1 is for Bachelor’s and Master’s students looking to improve their communication skills with regards to their fluency in speaking English or for anyone wishing to work on their pronunciation. The maximum number of participants per group is 16.
English Speaking & Pronunciation 1: B2 and up
Each online session will focus on a specific area of pronunciation and will offer ample opportunity for practice and feedback. Topics covered include individual sounds, word and sentence stress, intonation, chunking and pausing, and developing clear articulation and emphasis. The course will have a very practical focus, thus providing plenty of time to practise speaking and listening.
This course includes 8 online classes, one per week. Each class is 1 hour and 45 minutes. You should expect to spend 2 to 3 hours on homework each week.
Dates and times
The course English Speaking & Pronunciation 1 is offered annually in January, April and at the end of September/beginning of October.

Certification and exam
To receive a Wageningen in'to Languages certificate, a minimum attendance of 80% is required.

Prior to registration: placement test
English Speaking & Pronunciation 1 requires an OOPT score of 70 or higher. You can apply for the online OOPT by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You will then receive an email containing a login code and an explanation of the test. You can take the test when it suits you. We advise you, however, to do so at your earliest opportunity. Tip: Make sure you are able to take the test without being disturbed. The test lasts a maximum of 80 minutes. It is not possible to pause the test and finish it at a later time.
The test contains a listening component. Please use good headphones or speakers to listen to the audio fragments.
