Social Dutch 2

Are you a bachelor or master student at Wageningen University & Research? Have you finished Social Dutch 1 and find yourself wanting more? Or do you already have some basic knowledge and want to learn the language even better for social reasons? Then our Social Dutch 2 course might just be the thing for you. During this course, you will learn how to talk about, for example, past events. After this course, you will be able to engage your fellow students in small talk in Dutch!

Target group

The course is for bachelor and master's students of Wageningen University & research who already have some prior knowledge of Dutch and who want to learn Dutch for social purposes.

Entry level: Halfway to A1 (CEFR)
Level on completion: A1 (CEFR)

Course content

The main goal of this course is to learn to communicate in Dutch in simple, everyday situations.

What will this course teach you?

Once you have completed the course, you will be able to:

Grammar is always discussed in a communicative context and in functional situations.

For example: When you learn to talk about things that happened in the past, you simultaneously learn about the voltooid tegenwoordige tijd because knowledge of this grammatical concept is relevant to clearly talk or write about the past.

This course will also cover Dutch pronunciation and interesting aspects of Dutch culture.

The lecturer will speak Dutch as much as possible during the course.

Admission requirements

For this course you need prior knowledge of Dutch. You can sign up for this course, if you have participated in Social Dutch 1.

Have you studied Dutch before? Then make an appointment via into@wur.nl for an intake interview to discuss which course is suitable.

If German is your native language, you have the option to start with Social Dutch 2 right away, on the condition that you independently study chapters 1 through 5 of the course book prior to the first class.

This course is offered annually in January, April and September.

If you would like to take this course but it is either full or does not list a starting date that suits you, please click here and you will be notified once you can sign up for new dates. If all groups are fully booked and you want to be put on the waiting list for a particular period, please also fill in the interest form and then indicate this in the comments.

Location

You follow the course entirely online using the Virtual Classroom in Brightspace or at our location: Forum, Wageningen Campus.

If circumstances dictate this, the face-to-face course may be taught entirely online.

Number of meetings

15 meetings of 1.5 hours.

Self-study

2 to 3 hours of self-study per week.

After having registered for this course, you will receive additional information about the course materials in due time.

Certification

After the course you will receive a certificate from Wageningen in’to Languages, provided you have attended at least 80% of the classes. With this certificate you can continue with Social Dutch 3.

Social Dutch 3 & 4, WUR Students €90
Regular fee €275

* The courses Social Dutch 1 & 2 are part of the Pilot free courses Social Dutch for students. These are free for Master's and Bachelor's students who have attended 80% of the classes (12 of the 15). If this requirement has not been fullfilled, the student will receive an invoice at the end of the course of €90.
