Introduction

Hi everyone!

I’m Fleur de Geus and I study the Bachelor Tourism, a joint study between the NHTV University of Applied Sciences in Breda and Wageningen University. I am currently about to start my third and last year in one of the biggest cities in the world; Istanbul! I am offered the opportunity to be an exchange student for this fall semester at Boğaziçi Üniversitesi, a 150 year old institution. Boğaziçi’s vision is ‘achieving international excellence in education and research and becoming a “green”, sustainable university’. This fits together well with the focus of Wageningen.

The minor I have composed is a mix of tourism, sociology and management courses. You can think of titles such as Human Resource Management, Social Anthropology and Leadership and Motivation. I aim to complete all six courses successfully by the end of this calendar year. Luckily, they are taught in English instead of Turkish.

I expect that this exchange will teach me valuable lessons in life and that it broaden my horizon. I am certain it will be hard at times and therefore challenging, especially because I have to miss everyone at home for 4,5 months. But I also know for sure that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and therefore I am grabbing it with both hands!

Love,

Fleur
