The second year consists of an individual thesis project (minimum 36 ECTS) and an internship/traineeship (minimum 24 ECTS). Thesis and internship will be on a dairy science and technology related topic. A thesis is normally carried out at Wageningen University itself. The specialisation thesis topics are offered by the following groups:

- FPH : Food Physics
- FPE: Food Process Engineering

The internship always takes place outside Wageningen University. It could be carried out in another country, at a different university, within an industry or at an institute. The internship is not related to the thesis, but is under supervision of the same groups mentioned above.
