On 6 November 2018 Wageningen Academy in partnership with Proagrica hosted the 2nd edition of Global Future Farming Summit on Wageningen campus.

About one hundred managers including CEO’s from the international Food & Agribusiness sector were eager to learn about the latest improvements and challenges in the future global food system. During the event an impressive line-up of speakers shared their perspectives and inspired the attendees on an array of themes such as big data, artificial intelligence, sustainability and investment opportunities. On the second day of the Summit a great number of participants took the opportunity and joined the Experience Tour including visits to Wageningen Research facilities.

The Summit

How can precision agriculture help to produce more food using fewer resources? - by taking into account social demands and the environment. This was the central question of this edition. During the day multiple speakers explained their approach towards the question, starting from a general point of view and getting to the more specific aspects of the topic. Lively debates, interaction and an inspiring host kept everyone engaged during the day resulting in a Summit which was over before most realized. Overall conclusion? For sure, there is no simple answer but it is clear that the whole chain needs to be involved –especially the farmers who work on the actual field.

The Experience Tour

On the second day of the Summit a great number of participants took the opportunity to join the Experience Tour, which included visits to Wageningen Research facilities where experts introduced the participants into new research innovations in the world of Food, Plant, Animal and Climate/Soil sciences.
