Single-molecule Biophysics

The main focus of our lab is to study DNA-protein interactions on the molecular level. To achieve the necessary high temporal and spatial resolution, we use highly sensitive fluorescence-based techniques such as single-molecule FRET and super-resolution microscopy. In contrast to many ensemble-based experiments,  single-molecule experiments on biological objects can be performed under biologically relevant conditions and, more importantly, can reveal information about dynamic or static heterogeneity and the possible existence of subā€populations.

In addition, we are interested in pushing the technical boundaries of single-molecule-fluorescence detection with nanofluidic devices and we are closely cooperating with the Laboratory of Biochemistry to study transcriptional regulators and plasma membrane steroid receptors in Arabidopsis.
