Research of the Department of Soil Quality

Our current research deals with chemical compounds (nutrients, contaminants) and organisms (plants, biota) in soil: their characteristics, behaviour and interactions.

Keywords Soil Quality research

Our research contributes to a sustainable use of the soil as a natural resource for the provision of ecosystem services. Areas in which results of our research are applied are: soil fertility, plant nutrition, management of soil biodiversity in man-made ecosystems, soil pollution and remediation, risk assessment and control of greenhouse gas and nutrient emissions. The high-quality chemical- and biological soil laboratory (CBLB) and the Wageningen proficiency testing program in the fields of plant, soil sediments and organic waste analysis (WEPAL) are affiliated with the Soil Quality department.
