At the Esri GIS Tech 2018, John Stuiver, education and research assistant at Wageningen University, received the GIS Pro Award from Joris Bak of Esri Nederland. The award is a crowning achievement for John's years of dedication to the development of GIS education.

Pioneering role
Esri Nederland has created the GIS Pro Award to show appreciation to GIS professionals who take a pioneering role within their own organization and beyond. John has not only been developing GIS education at Wageningen University for years, but is also throughout the Netherlands and worldwide. John stood at the cradle of the GIS Edu-day, representing the Dutch GIS related education during a session with Esri founder Jack Dangermond in the Netherlands last year. Every year he visits with students various companies in the GIS world. All this to create a strong link between education and companies and to prepare students for the labor market. The proof of his success are the many Stuiver students who are now working in the GIS world.

Innovation
Esri Nederland thinks it is admirable what Stuiver does in the GIS world. Joris Bak of ESRI Nederland says: 'John Stuiver is involved and helpful towards his students and is also an initiator of events concerning education. He is always busy discovering new technologies and translating these into the possibilities for education. In addition, Stuiver has a critical, but open attitude that challenges education as well as the technology to grow to a higher level.'

Proude
John Stuiver was honored with this token of appreciation for his work. 'The development of the GIS world is enormous. I think it's important to follow these developments and make them known wherever I go. My starting point is always: stay curious, find the limits and keep smiling. The award is a nice confirmation of this.'
