Meloidogyne duytsi

The root-knot nematode Meloidogyne duytsi is a common species in coastal front dunes in Western Europe. It parasitizes on grasses as Elymus farctus (sand couch-grass) and Ammophila arenaria (marram grass) and is adapted to the brackisch environment of the coastal front dunes. The species was named after mr. Henk Duyts (NIOO, The Netherlands), who found this species for the first time at Oostvoorne, the Netherlands. The pictures shows the head region of an infective second-stage juvenile, with the stylet and metacorpus visible.
