ENP welcomes PhD candidate Sayel Cortes

Sayel Cortes is a PhD candidate at the Environmental Policy Group working on the role of city networks on climate governance. This is part of a broader research on joined-up governance for low-carbon cities.

Sayel holds a Master on global Affairs & Policy in International Development in Yonsei University in South Korea focusing on green growth. He also studied a Master in Economy in the Universidad de Guadalajara in Mexico, where he spend one semester at the University of Texas in Austin, and looked into the impact of environment investment in a dynamic model of population and natural resource. He holds a bachelor on Environmental Engineer from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO) in Mexico.

Before coming to Wageningen, Sayel worked on CityNet, a city network that promotes urban sustainable development in cities in Asia, on building capacities and knowledge sharing for city government officials. He also worked with the World Resource Institute both in their Mexico office and as an independent consultant on cost/benefit and scenario analysis for mobility and urban development projects aimed to reduce urban carbon emissions. He also has over 3 years of working experience of project management in the private sector at CartoData, a consultancy in geomatics.
