Marine and Freshwater Photos

1850 photos related to marine and freshwater research, mainly focusing on the Netherlands (North Sea, Wadden Sea, Zeeland, Dutch Caribbean). The photos were made by staff members from Wageningen Marine Research.

You can find images of marine life (fish, benthos, jellyfish, birds, marine mammals), of different habitats (dunes, beaches, saltmarshes, sandbanks, reefs) and of different types of human use (e.g. fisheries).  

The collection’s main focus is on the Netherlands (North Sea, Wadden Sea, Zeeland, Dutch Caribbean). Photos are made by Wageningen Marine Research (IMARES) photographers.

The Marine and Freshwater photos can be downloaded for free. They can be used and distributed for non-commercial use. The Creative Commons license CC BY-NC 4.0 is applicable.

The collection brings together photos taken during scientific surveys and holidays, as well as images collected during joint expeditions with Stichting Duik de Noordzee Schoon and WWF. The collection contains images on the following subjects:

The majority of the photos have been taken by marine ecologist Oscar Bos from Wageningen Marine Research (formerly IMARES). In the near future, photos by other photographers will be added.
