Borrowing and renewing

The Library offers various lending services for staff and students of Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and for external users.

Students and staff of WUR can borrow books with their WUR card. They are automatically registered as borrowers. Others need to present a valid ID (passport or driver's license), in order to be registered as borrower of the Library. Publications may be borrowed for 4 weeks. They must be returned before the loan period expires, unless a renewal of the loan period is permitted.

The following types of documents cannot be borrowed:

  • Documents published before 1900, rare and precious books, maps, drawings, etc.
  • Atlases, bibliographies, dictionaries, encyclopaedias and other reference works
  • Heavy or voluminous books
  • Journals

How do I extend the loan period of the borrowed books?

Extending the loan period is only possible if the book has not been reserved for another user.

Books borrowed from another library in The Netherlands can be borrowed for a maximum of 6 months.

You will receive a warning by e-mail when the loan period expires. You may then renew the loan period or return the publication(s). You will be asked for the bar code of the borrowed item. When the publications are not returned or the loan period is not extended, you will receive an e-mail weekly with an overview of the items that have not been returned and the fines that are still to be paid.

The Library needs to have your correct e-mail address in order to use this system of warning messages. If you want to check whether the e-mail address in our borrowers registration database is correct, or if you want to change it, please contact the lending desk at your library. You can also phone the lending desk at Forum Library (0317 482250) or send an e-mail.
