Avian influenza in Sint Philipsland

On 12 October, Wageningen Bioveterinary Research detected avian influenza in chickens originating from a poultry farm in Sint Philipsland (municipality of Tholen, province of Zeeland). It was identified as the mild H5N2 variant of the virus.

The farm has approximately 42,000 laying hens with outdoor access. In accordance with European regulations, all poultry on the farm has been culled.
