On Monday 6 June 2016, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of South Africa, Mr. Senzeni Zokwana, accompanied by amongst others the CEO of Agricultural Research Council (ARC), Dr. Shadrack Moephuli, and the Netherlands Agricultural Counsellor to South Africa, Mozambique and Angola, Niek Schelling, visited Wageningen UR.
The delegation was welcomed by Tijs Breukink, member of the Wageningen UR Executive Board. Plant, animal health, capacity strengthening and a strategic partnership between ARC and Wageningen UR were part of the programme. The programme ended with a lunch attended by several South African students.
Dr. Jeroen Kortekaas, senior researcher of Central Veterinary Institute (CVI) presented his ideas for a trilateral collaboration between The Netherlands, South Africa and Kenya, aimed to produce and market a novel vaccine for the control of Rift Valley fever.
