Landscape is a European asset worth to be taken serious. European policies form a major driving force behind continuous land use changes affecting the wide range of traditional cultural landscapes at the regional level including local markets, communities and biodiversity. However, in European policy landscapes are awkwardly left alone or entirely depend on regional support only. Instead, European institutions should and can contribute more actively to proper landscape protection, management and planning.

In order to initiate and guide a constructive and targeted debate on the sustainable future of European regions, the small pocket book “Blueprint for EUROSCAPE 2020” has been prepared for all participants of the High Level Landscape Seminar in Stresa, Italy on 23/24 May 2008.

But even without participation the seminar it is a valuable booklet with ideas for policy development to achieve sustainable future European landscapes.
