Centre for Genetic Resources (CGN) produced leaflets with the population information and risk status, to show in an attractive manner the genetic diversity of Dutch breeds for agriculture. In the Netherlands are 144 breeds of 12 species.

About 90% of these breeds has a status of vulnerable, endangered or critical, based on their population status. The most breeds have semen save guarded in the gene bank of the CGN.

The leaflets also show human interest stories with the special breed characteristics of the breed they keep. And these stories tell the immense importance of enthusiast breed keepers. No breeders, no breed.

The definition of a Dutch breed is that is has its origin in the Netherlands or is a breed where breeding organisations have a breeding management programme in the Netherlands.
