Crop protection and environment

Crop protection is necessary in order to guarantee a good quality crop and a good yield. The use of pesticides is indispensable in this process, but (inter)national social pressure to minimise their impact on the environment is both expected and appropriate.

Our research focuses on innovation in application methods to reduce the amount of required product, make the process more efficient and reduce its environmental impact (also in light of spray drift). Among other things, we develop alternative non-chemical methods to control weeds, conduct research on the spread of exotic species of weeds, and we support research focussing on generating resistance to disease through innovative breeding techniques and genetic modification.
