Veterinary Medicines
According to EU regulations our food may not contain the remnants of veterinary medicines. These regulations are rigorously enforced. RIKILT is a National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for residues of veterinary medicines.
RIKILT is a NRL for animal drugs which promote animal health, such as:
Regular proficiency tests
- antibiotics
- anthelmintics
- coccidiostatics
- substances like acetylsalicylic acid and ibuprofen (also referred to as NSAIDs).
Non-registered antibiotics
RIKILT is also a NRL for non-registered antibiotics such as nitrofuranes, malachite green and chlooramfenicol. Products like meat, milk and eggs are all tested for the presence of animal drugs.A full overview of these substances (and substance groups) can be found in Directive 96/23/EC.
Regular proficiency tests
This NRL regularely organises proficiency tests in which interested laboratories can participate.
