Research involving big data requires all kinds of skills in the field of data science. This varies from technical knowledge of data, software, databases, and programming skills on one hand, to knowledge of model-based calculations, visualizations, and advanced analyzing methods on the other hand.
Also ethical aspects will play a part in that regard, for example when the privacy of participants of a survey is concerned, or the reliability and understandability of algorithms on which far-reaching decisions are made. In order to be able to use the possibilioties of big data well, it is essential to combine the knowledge of big data with domain specific knowledge.
The WDCC aims to strengthen the curriculum at Wageningen University in the field of applied data science, in the broad sense of the term. Starting point is the combination of domain specific knowledge and technical knowhow.
