We are looking for
We are looking for an enthusiastic and productive postdoctoral chemist to strengthen our team on Advanced Materials for Chemical Selectivity and to work in the interdisciplinary field of organic surface chemistry and electrochemistry.
The project deals with an important topic in water treatment technologies, which currently largely focus on improving the quality of water. However, high-value nutrients, like nitrate and phosphate ions, often remain present in waste streams. Electro-driven separation processes offer a sustainable way to recover these nutrients. Ion-selective, polymer-based electrodes display significant potential to achieve selectivity in such processes.
We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious postdoctoral researcher who will fabricate and characterize new electrodes to apply them in electro-driven ion adsorption processes, aiming at ion-selective removal and recovery. The project will deal with organic material science, surface chemistry and electrochemistry.
For this position we request the candidate to hold a PhD degree in chemistry (organic, materials, polymer or electrochemistry). Hands-on experience with polymer chemistry and electrochemistry is desired. Also, you have a proven track record of scientific excellence as shown by a series of peer-reviewed papers. We expect you to be able to perform independent research, have good communicational and social skills, be fluent in English and eager to engage in collaborations with co-workers. The projected start is Q2/2018.
A job at an organisation that will challenge you every day to provide our clients with the best possible solution. As Postdoc you will be part of an ambitious team working on a wide range of issues with plenty of scope for initiative. Personal input and responsibility are an integral part of our culture.
We offer you a temporary position for a period of 1 year. Gross salary per month is max. € 4.084,- (scale 10) for a fulltime appointment.
The project is part of an ERC Consolidator program and will be carried out in close collaboration with several PhD students. For this postdoc position multiple-year funding is available; initially a 1-year contract is offered, with the possibility to extend upon mutual approval.
We not only offer a competitive salary but also good (study) leave and a pension of the ABP Pension Fund.

The Organic Chemistry group (www.orc.wur.nl) constitutes a large, interdisciplinary research team involved in teaching and research on organic chemistry, with an emphasis on surface-based reactivity. The group aims to excel in the research and teaching of organic chemistry. The laboratory is extremely well-equipped with a unique set of analysis instruments for bio-organic materials and surfaces, and the group consists of around 20 PhD students and postdocs, a permanent staff of 7 technical employees, two part-time professors with external expertise, 6 assistant and associate professors and one full-time chair. In addition to this, the embedding within Wageningen University & Research adds ample biological input into our focus on chemistry-based bionanotechnology. Currently ca. 1700 students/year take part in one or more Organic Chemistry study elements provided by our faculty.
The Agrotechnology & Food Sciences Group is part of Wageningen University & Research where fundamental and applied sciences complement each other. As an important European player, we carry out top-level research and work alongside authoritative partners within the international business world as well as the government on “Healthy food in a biobased society”. We have a crucial role in innovations within the market. Entrepreneurship and professionalism are what define us. In short, we are an interesting, international employer of stature.
Wageningen University & Research
