Detecting plagiarism

How to use TurnitIn to detect plagiarism.

When writers forget, neglect or ignore the need to cite and reference their sources, their work might be considered plagiarism. Plagiarism is a serious academic offence. Wageningen students learn that they have to accurately reference their sources. But how can you quickly and efficiently check if they actually do so?

Originality check with TurnitIn

TurnitIn is a tool in the Blackboard environment of Wageningen University. It provides an originality check by comparing submitted papers to those saved in repositories used by TurnitIn. It also has several other features, such as digital assessment and peer review.

No Blackboard at your disposal?

If you want to check a document for plagiarism and you don’t have a Blackboard course site at your disposal, contact the EDUsupport Helpdesk. They can give you access to a ‘general’ Blackboard site where you can upload a document for plagiarism detection.

If you don’t want to use Blackboard, you can ask EDUsupport for a TurnitIn account. TurnitIn will then send you a temporary password and you can log in using your WUR email address.
