I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Geo-information Science and Remote Sensing (GRS). My current research focuses on spatial and interdisciplinary analysis of deforestation and agricultural related land use changes in Sub-Saharan Africa to better understand the past, current and future competing pressures on land for food production and climate change mitigation goals. This study is a collaboration between researchers from the GRS and the Plant Production Systems (PPS) group and is funded through the C.T. de Wit Graduate School for Production Ecology & Resource Conservation.
I defended my PhD thesis in January 2020. This research project was a collaboration between the GRS group and CIFOR, as part of the Global Comparative Study on REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation, plus enhancing forest carbon stocks). My research focused on REDD+ performance assessment at the subnational scale, in the context of measurement, reporting and verification (MRV). Within the GCS research program, I collaborated as an interdisciplinary researcher with colleagues from both the modules on subnational initiatives and measuring carbon emissions. Specific research themes were data uncertainty and deforestation drivers assessment.
At Wageningen University, I am the coordinator of the REDD@WUR network, a research network of scholars working on REDD+.
I have a MSc degree in Environmental Sciences (Sustainable Development-International Development) from Utrecht University, and a joint MSc in Geographical Information Management and Applications (GIMA) from University of Twente/ITC Enschede, TU Delft, Utrecht University and Wageningen University & Research. I obtained a BSc degree in International Development Studies at Wageningen University, with a specialisation in Sociology of Rural Development.
