I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Ecology from the Javeriana University in Colombia, where I pursued a thesis on bird biodiversity in urban parks in the city of Bogot√°. Afterwards, I obtained my Master's degree in Environmental Studies from Florida International University in the U.S. and I specialized in local perceptions and management of an invasive fern in indigenous communities in Oaxaca, Mexico. I'm currently pursuing my PhD that focuses on landscape transformation history in the rainforest of Selva Lacandona region in southern Mexico.

I consider myself an interdisciplinary researcher who focuses on human ecology. I have always been interested in the relationship between humans and nature, and this interest is reflected in the topics I have studied through my academic career. I continuously strive to get in depth understanding of the dynamic and complex relations found in social-ecological interactions. Im also interested in understanding how these social-ecological relationships shape the world around us, and its implications on natural resource management & conservation, and rural livelihoods & wellbeing.
