Daniel Gallardo Albarrán studied business management and economic history at the University of Sevilla and the University of Münster. He completed his Ph. D. at the University of Groningen in 2018 with a thesis entitled Health, well-being and inequality over the long term. He currently works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Rural and Environmental History Group at Wageningen University Research.

His research focuses on the historical roots of global health inequality and their implications for global welfare disparities. His publications consider the effect of sanitary infrastructures on public health; the link between health and welfare (19th and 20th century); and how health improves productivity. Also, I have studied the determinants of economic performance (19th and 20th century).

Currently, he is working on various projects analyzing the drivers of health inequality across regions and time, the determinants of sanitary investment, and the effect of public health policies on epidemic outbreaks.
