Head of Department Livestock & Environment

Trained in Environmental Health Sciences and Business Administration and obtained my PhD at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University, I work at the intersection of livestock farming and its environment in the broadest sense of the word.

Within Wageningen Livestock Research, I am head of the Livestock & Environment department. In this department, a team of more than 50 researchers, project managers and project support staff conducts research into issues related to livestock farming in relation to the environment. The central issue here is how livestock farming can be set up, given changing climate conditions and preconditions such as greenhouse gas emission neutral, energy neutral, nature inclusion (more biodiversity), circularity, social support and a business economic perspective. Specialists in the various fields work together with generalists with an integral view to find  answers to this issue. We also collaborate closely with researchers from other research areas within Wageningen University & Research and with external partners at home and abroad.

My own interest lies in the integral approach of the issues facing livestock farming and the social dialogue about this.
