dr. J (Jerry) Maroulis

Since March 2019, I relocated to New Zealand and I am working as Manager of the Centre for Learning & Teaching at Lincoln University in Christchurch, New Zealand.

I have worked as a lecturer at Wageningen University in the Soil Physics and Land Management (SLM) Group since 2012, after relocating from Australia to live and work in The Netherlands.

In 2001, I obtained my PhD at Wollongong University in fluvial geomorphology working on semi-arid, low-gradient river systems in central Australia.

I was Co-Director and Deputy Director of the Australian Center for Sustainable Catchments (ACSC) research center at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) in Toowoomba, Queensland from 2007-2010 and I am currently a USQ adjunct senior lecturer.

I also worked as a senior environmental consultant with Landloch in 2010-11, focused largely upon a range of soil-erosion based research consultancies for a number of mining companies and Government agencies.

In relation to teaching, I worked in the Faculty of Education at USQ between 1993-2011, where I developed a plethora of course materials and taught many thousands of students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in a number of delivery modes including traditional face-to- face, flexible delivery, external print, and hybrid modes. I was also awarded USQ teaching awards at both the faculty and university level for creative approaches to online and student-centred pedagogical practices and was acknowledged as a USQ Teaching Fellow.

I also worked in Toowoomba as a high school teacher and also as an erosion researcher/modeller with the Queensland Government and obtained my MSc (Hons) from Wollongong University and BSc (Hons) from Sydney University.

My research areas of interest include erosion processes, fluvial geomorphology, soil conservation, environmental studies and online education.
