After successfully graduating, I started my PhD at Cell Biology and Immunology at the Wageningen University on the following project: "Use of branched 1,3/1,6 beta glucan, MacroGard®, a waste product of the production of sugar and ethanol from baker's yeast, to stimulate the innate immune system of farmed fish" funded by the NWO.
In June 2019 I successfully defended my PhD thesis entitled "Modulation of innate immunity in carp. Diverse approaches to ß-glucan-mediated responses."
Currently, I am working as a post-doctoral researcher at the Aquaculture and Fisheries group on a project under the larger ProSeaweed | Seaweed for Food and Feed project. I am working on the project entitled "Marine Sulfated Polysaccharides (MSP) from green and red seaweed for improving health of fish in aquaculture". This research aims to investigate the direct and indirect effects of MSP supplementation on the health and immune system of different fish species. I am especially interested in the effects of feed additives on the non-specific innate immune response and I try to unravel the molecular pathways underlying the immune modulating effects of dietary supplementation with immuno-modulators.
As a side-interest I am interested in the genomic diversity in fish genomes and try to aid in unraveling complex fish genomes.
