After my study and PhD research in the area of biology, I started in Wageningen in 1984. Until 2000, this was in the field of biosystematics and plant breeding, and from 2000 in the area of food safety. My specialization is the development and application of non-chemical methods, especially microscopy and other visual techniques. I am coordinator of the Dutch reference laboratory for animal proteins and scientific officer of the European association of microscopists in the field of animal feed research. It is a great benefit to use my background in biology and my experience with cultivated plants in the research on food safety. I like to work in the whole field of food security, reuse of by-products and environmental issues of food production.
