Madeleine van Mansfeld (1954) is a biologist, landscape ecologist and process manager in transition management. The professional career covers research, teaching and consultancy in landscape ecology and natural resources management throughout the world. As landscape ecologist the professional career from 1978 onward consists of research, teaching and consultancy on landscape ecology and natural resources management. It started as staff member of the Foundation of protection of Landscape Province Z-Holland, in the Foundation for Nature Travels, and the Foundation for Protection of Irish Peat lands. She was teacher and lecturer in several universities and worked 9 years as senior consultant landscape ecology with Grontmij BV. From 2000 she worked as senior researcher land use planning and process management at Environmental Sciences, Alterra, Wageningen University. The action oriented research deals with land use change through participatory regional planning and facilitating transdisciplinary processes for solutions on complex issues on water, agriculture, food and ecosystems, which ask for an integrative and interactive approach.The work resulted in publications, feasibility studies and implementation planning on ecology/economy, ecology/infrastructure and metropolitan agriculture for sustainable development. Examples are EIAs; Landscape planning; Riverine and coastal Nature Development plans; Project coordination of Water and Climate research in new approaches for adaptive water management; Co-development of ideas on spatial planning of the underground; Action research and evaluations on (inter)national regional planning processes; Evaluation of the Nature-balances of the Dutch Government; a Multi criteria analysis for Nature targets, Development of participatory tools and generic methodology to improve decision making, Master planning for nature areas and master planning in agriculture. Within Alterra work has concentrated on tprocess management and master planning of Metropolitan Food Clusters with Agroparks and Rural Transformation, as integrated approach of new intelligent food-value chains. This work on large scale, high value, clustered agriculture is one of the innovative solutions for sustainable development on those spots of the world where there is dire need for better ways of producing and preparing food
From 2013 she worked with the EU organization EIT Climate KIC as Innovation lead in the Dutch Co-location Centre, based at Utrecht University, NL to coordinate and facilitate Dutch partners of Climate KIC, in their contribution towards the innovation agenda and build-up of the innovation pillar Europe. She managed the challenge platform Land, Water Management and Engineering, for innovation and business development in the strategic areas of resilience to extreme events in coastal areas, Climate Smart Agriculture and on tools to manage socio-ecological systems and ecosystem services. From June 2015 she acted as co-lead of the flagship Climate Smart Agriculture Booster, an European business solution to adaptation and mitigation in agriculture and food. From Juli 2016 she is guestworker of Wageningen UR-EnvIronmental Sciences and has an advisory business "DIALOGICAL", on process management and faciliation around complex challenges in land use planning and sustainable development.
