Universitair hoofddocent

Since 2012 I am assistant professor in Plant Production Systems. I have expertise in integrated assessment of agricultural systems, considering impacts on different dimensions of sustainable development (economic, environmental, social), considering different drivers (climate change, policy, markets, technological development), at multiple scales (crop, farm, region, continent; with a focus on the farm level), using a range of methods (statistical analyses, crop modelling, bio-economic farm modelling, Geographic Information Systems, participatory approaches, and agent-based modelling).

Specific foci include adaptation to climate change and explaining yield gaps and resource use efficiencies at farm level. Currently, I am working on several projects assessing and explaining yield gaps and resource use efficiencies (IMAGINE, TAMASA, Crop Nutrient Gaps, Waterfarming) in Africa and Europe, and projects developing pathways for a more sustainable and resilient agriculture in Europe (TSARA, SureFarm).
