CS (Stephan) van der Westhuizen
Externe medewerkerStephan van der Westhuizen graduated cum laude from his MCom degree in Statistics at Stellenbosch University in South Africa in 2013. His thesis focused on statistical classification with machine learning algorithms and specifically looked at hypersphere classification and its performance compared to other machine learning algorithms. In 2014 Stephan was appointed as a data scientist and worked in the private sector for two years, after which he returned to Stellenbosch University as a full-time lecturer in Biometry at the Department of Genetics.
In 2019 Stephan was registered as a PhD candidate at Wageningen University under the supervision of Professor Gerard Heuvelink. His PhD will focus on the enhancement of machine learning algorithms in digital soil mapping.
