dr.ir. JB (Jouke) Campen

International project manager

Jouke Campen is a specialist in protected horticulture. He started working at Wageningen UR in 1997. Adaptive greenhouse design is one of his key competencies, answering the increasing demand for locally produced safe food. The “Adaptive greenhouse design simulation” model allows simulating different greenhouse designs for a specific location and climate condition in the world, providing information on the production, water use, energy use, and other operational costs.

Besides greenhouse design, he is also a specialist in energy and climate control in protected horticulture. Over the years he has become an expert in computational fluid dynamics calculations for greenhouses. He finished his PhD on dehumidification of greenhouses in October 2009. Dehumidification of greenhouses is essential for crop health as well we bio-security control.  Currently, he is the coordinator of the energy program of the Ministry of Agriculture in The Netherlands involving annually 7 million EURO of projects on reducing energy use in the Dutch protected horticultural sector. Aside from this task, he is the project leader of international projects related to sustainable agriculture.
