Animal health is a matter of national interest, as recent outbreaks of animal diseases have shown. The government aims to prevent animal diseases. When prevention is unsuccessful the aim is to treat animal diseases effectively and in a manner that is acceptable to the general public. The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation has created a ‘National Agenda for Animal Health 2007 -2013’, in conjunction with a number of relevant organisations. This national agenda is aimed at the health of all animals, including pets, animals kept by hobby farmers, horses and animals roaming nature areas. The agenda not only relates to animal diseases, but deals with animal health in general.
