WIAS fellowship grant for sabbatical of Prof Ruurd Zijlstra at the Animal Nutrition Group

From July until December 2014, Ruurd Zijlstra will spend a sabbatical at the Animal Nutrition Group. Ruurd is professor at the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. The sabbatical is supported by the graduate school Wageningen Institute of Animal Sciences (WIAS).

Ruurd Zijlstra has more than 20 years of experience in swine nutrition research in North America following education at Wageningen University. Experiences in the last 10 years include the study starch and fibre nutrition using surgical models, feedstuff development and evaluation, and rapid feed quality evaluation systems. These efforts have resulted in 100 peer-reviewed publications. During his sabbatical in Wageningen, Ruurd will participate in on-going research, particularly in the area of calorimetry and swine nutrition, strengthening the collaboration between Wageningen University and the University of Alberta.
