Successful first run of Sensor Data in Animal Sciences course
In period 2, the new course ‘Sensor Data in Animal Sciences’ had a successful first run. The course is about sensors used in animal production systems, with a focus on accelerometers, feeding stations, and trackers. Data science is a growing field in animal sciences, and this course is meant to teach the basics. Students learned about main sensors, how to analyse data in R, and presented their own case studies on real data.
In total 17 MSc students followed the course, and they evaluated the course as very satisfying (score 4.5 on scale of 1 to 5). Students especially liked the combination of informative lectures with knowledge about research and the field, and the practicals using R, and also said it was the perfect preparation for data analysis during their thesis. The course will run again in period 2, i.e. October 2022, and we hope to welcome many enthusiastic students again!
