WASS is the Wageningen School of Social Science. The mission of WASS is to understand social processes with regard to today's global challenges of disparities and poverty, of responsible production and consumption, of natural resource use and the environment, as well as of knowledge in society. WIMEK is the Wageningen Institute for environment and climate research. WIMEK participates in the Netherlands Research School for the Socio-Economic and Natural Sciences of the Environment (SENSE). AESOP is the Association of European Schools of Planning, it mobilizes its resources, taking a leading role and entering its expertise into ongoing debates and initiatives regarding planning education and planning qualifications of future professionals. AESOP promotes its agenda with professional bodies, politicians and all other key stakeholders in spatial and urban development and management across Europe. AESOP website

ISOMUL is the International Study Group on Multiple Use of Land. Professor Van der Valk is co-chair of ISOMUL.

ECLAS is the European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools. ECLAS goal is to foster and develop scholarship in landscape architecture throughout Europe by strengthening contacts and enriching the dialogue between members of Europe's landscape academic community. ELLS The subject area Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning is part of ELLS, the Euroleague for Lifesciences. Its mission is to develop the international dimension of landscape design and planning education and research, and bring it into practice. Read more on the ELLS website.

IFLA is the International Federation of Landscape Architecture. IFLA is the body representing Landscape Architects worldwide. Its purpose is to coordinate the activities of member associations when dealing with global issues, and to ensure that the profession of landscape architecture continues to prosper as it continues to effect the design and management of our environment. Silk Road Research stimulates international cooperation between researchers to increase our knowledge and understanding of transition and innovation in governance. Silk Road Research organises and finances research projects and stimulates scientific publication.

International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (CIGR). The main aims of CIGR Section I are to promote the advance of the engineering science in the area of land and water use in agriculture and in rural areas, giving special attention to the conservation of resources, the preservation and re-establishment of environmental balances, and the social and economic impacts of applications in order to realize sustainable development for both urban and rural societies.

Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh), International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM)
