SGL/NCL coastal geologist Liz Chamberlain explains in a podcast by the Delta Dispatches Radio Show that unravelling the history of the Mississippi delta helps understanding the dynamics of, and interaction between, sedimentation and subsidence.

This knowledge is vital for both natural and artificial coastal restauration of the Mississippi delta and thus for the protection of coastal communities and nature areas.  Experience and insight gained in the Mississippi delta can be used for protecting coastal communities in many other deltas around the globe.
