Summary:

In this thesis, resistance genes were mapped and diagnostic markers designed for the quarantine organism Synchytrium endobioticum. The results are of great importance for commercial potato breeding and disease management.

Synchytrium endobioticum, the causal agent of potato wart disease, is a quarantine organism which is contained with host encoded disease resistance. In this thesis, four major resistance genes and several quantitative traits loci were mapped, and diagnostic molecular markers were designed, using state of the art technology. The results are of great importance to our fundamental understanding of this pathosystem interactions, to commercial breeding and to disease management.
