My name is Rodney Nanninga and I will start working as a lecturer/teacher trainer in geography for the Educational Minor from the first of February, 2021. After my Master in Urban Planning at Universiteit Utrecht, I trained as a geography teacher.

For the past 15 years, I have worked full-time at Het Streek, a secondary school in Ede, a position I will keep part-time next to my work for ELS. I enjoy working with secondary school students and creating lessons to help them develop an understanding of the complex world we live in. For the last couple of years, I have been part of the Geo Future School taskforce at my school. Geo Future School introduces students to major issues facing our society in the areas of climate change, health, globalization, energy, water, food, cities, logistics and geopolitics. These complex issues are addressed in various school subjects, but are usually not integrated. At Geo Future School we develop cross-curricular projects, initiate collaboration with companies and stimulate solution-oriented thinking.

Coaching new teachers  is another field that interests me. I have been coordinating the programme for trainee teachers at my school and although teaching can be demanding, I am very happy that in working for ELS I will be able to help students develop their skills and enthusiasm for a career in education.
