Supporting Myanmar’ faculty members for the possible transition to online education
Dr. Omid Noroozi and other WUR colleagues organized a series of online workshops for the Myanmar Energy and Environment Education project (MEEE). MEEE is a project that directly contributes to sustainable and inclusive socio-economic growth in Myanmar by enhancing capacities of local universities to provide quality education on sustainable energy. The series of workshops was entitled: Participatory Teaching Methods in Online Learning Environments. The workshops were held in order to prepare Myanmar’ faculty members for the possible transition to online education.
The MEEE project is funded by Erasmus+ Program of the European Union. In January 2021, as a part of MEEE project, Dr. Omid Noroozi held a series of 4 hours online workshops entitled “Participatory Teaching Methods in Online Learning Environments” for different institutions in Myanmar including Myeik University, Yangon Technological University, Mandalay Technological University, and University of Yangon.
In these workshops, Dr. Mattijs Smits (ENP), Dr. Seyyed Kazem Banihashem (ELS), and Dr. Maartje van der Knaap (ENP) assisted Dr. Noroozi with their insightful and constructive feedback and examples. These workshops were held in order to prepare Myanmar’ faculty members for the possible transition to online education. In these workshops, we provided participants with various online tools on how to increase students’ participation and engagement in classes and how to make online education fun, exciting, and yet challenging for students in online learning environments. The principles of peer feedback as well as the rules for group work activities in online classrooms were also discussed in these online workshops.
Furthermore, attention was also given to the participatory and formative assessment techniques in these workshops. The survey evaluation results for these workshops showed that participants were highly motivated and satisfied about the quality, content, attractiveness, teachers’ competence, and level of interaction of these workshops. Some of these survey results are presented below.
