Education and Learning Sciences present at ECER2019

ELS’s Harm Biemans, PhD-candidate Koen Wessels and Arjen Wals attended the European Conference on Educational Research (ECER in Hamburg this year. Around 3000 participants from over 60 countries attended the conference.

Harm focused mainly on the subnetwork on vocational education and training (VETNET) in which he has a governing role. Koen gave a presentation in a full room on his initial research ideas and concepts titled: Shaping Our Common World In Education? A Recognition And Exploration Of A Mindset Of Participation .

Arjen was mainly involved with the subnetwork on Environmental and Sustainability Education (Network 30), one of the youngest expanding networks. Since the overall theme was 'Education in an Era of Risk – the Role of Educational Research for the Future' Arjen had the honor of being asked as one of the plenary keynote speakers. The title of his talk was: Should and Can Education Save the Planet?

In his talk he outlined the current global sustainability challenges form a learning perspective and he introduced the notion of sustainability-oriented ecologies of learning.
