Mattijs Smits awarded 2020 Excellence in Education Prize

The 2020 Excellent in Education awards yielded a prize for Dr. Mattijs Smits on the Environmental Policy Group for the introductory course ‘Social Scientific Analysis of Environmental Issues’. The course is taught in the Bachelor of Environmental Sciences at Wageningen University.

A jury of four emeritus professors and four current students noted the clear but challenging structure of the course as central to their decision to award the prize. They also highlighted Mattijs’s enthusiastic teaching performance that motivates both social and natural science students to engage in social theory of the environment.
　
The award was one of four categories of awards in 2020 that included advanced, introductory specialized, large courses.
