Hello everyone, my name is Ibnu Budiman. I was born in Indonesia. I hold an MSc degree majoring in environmental sciences, minoring climate studies and sustainability, from Wageningen University and Research; and BSc majoring in human geography from the University of Indonesia.

I have been working as a researcher and consultant in the field of environmental management and sustainable development for six years. My works include the following topics; socio-ecological system, policy, governance, and technical aspects - on themes of climate/environmental actions such as renewable energy, agriculture, and land use. I was a fellow of World Resources Institute, ASEAN Center for Energy, and Sustainability and Resilience (Su-re.co). Also I was involved in several development projects in South East Asia and several African countries; advising international public authorities, such as Asian Development Bank, UNDP, UNIDO, Japan International Cooperation Agency, NMFA, USAID, GAIN, and European Commission (EC).

I have published a number of academic articles, policy reports, op-ed pieces, and book chapters on a variety of environment and development issues. I also participated in the public debate sustainable development, and among others, through newspaper appearances, seminars, conferences, and open lectures. In addition, I carried out volunteer work at the Canada World Youth in Nova Scotia, Canada; and, the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation in Borneo, Indonesia.

Currently, I am working on an interdisciplinary research project on Smart Agriculture in Indonesia. Under supervision from Annemarie Wagemakers, Marjolein Derks, Sahara, and Eko Cahyadi, the topic focuses on social practice of farmers and rural institutions toward (technology) innovation, in supporting sustainable production of animal-source food that involves an integrated approach. This study will utilize a systemic approach to investigate farmers’ uptake of innovation, particularly for the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in dairy farming and inland fishery in Indonesia.

Outside of work, I practice sports such as soccer, badminton, and squash; music (guitar and sing). I also like to travel and I am enjoying nature, culture, and history.
