Molecular characterisation of MRSA and ESBL

Because multi-resistant organisms such as MRSA and ESBLs occur in animal husbandry, a potential risk to the public health arose.

The Central Veterinary Institute (CVI) has been conducting patrols that focus on a phenotypic screening based on MIC-values of resistance determinants in selected isolates from animals and animal products. This way it is possible to determine how many resistance genes are present. The goal of this project is to perform targeted prevalence studies and molecular characterizations to confirm or disprove the relationship between multi-resistant organisms in livestock and public health issues.
