Project

AF-EU-16001 Success

The Wageningen Research objective is to upgrade two key models by expanding them with fisheries and aquaculture sectors at the regional level. The first one is the general equilibrium, sector-wide (primary, industry, services) MAGNET model for world regions. Information on input and output structures (in monetary terms) for aquaculture and fish processing sectors will be integrated in order to project and to analyse their competitiveness compared to other sectors and across (world) regions. The second one is the econometric, dynamic, multi-product partial equilibrium AGMEMOD model for agro-food sectors at EU member state level.

Detailed information on production, consumption, trade (in volume terms) and prices for key fishery and aquaculture species will be integrated at the European country level in order to allow baseline projections and to evaluate the impacts of measures, programmes and policies under different scenarios.

The SUCCESS project will address the main economic challenges of European fisheries and aquaculture sectors along the entire value chain from inputs to markets. It will provide a more complete and better understanding of the European value chain. The project will identify opportunities to drive better performance, competitiveness and sustainability. This will enable these stakeholders to better understand and benefit from the functioning of their markets. The DLO activities within the SUCCESS project contribute to the roadmap Consumer & Chains in two ways. First, SUCCESS analyses the impacts of technological innovations and policy measures on the Dutch and European agro-food production. Second, SUCCESS analyses the impacts of preferences and (sustainability) measures on the agro-food consumption and on the provision of affordable healthy food.
