Bio-alcohols as a platform for the production of bio-based chemicals and advanced biofuels

Anaerobic bacteria (Clostridia) are able to convert various carbohydrate-containing (waste)streams and C1-waste gasses (CO, CO2, syngas) into a mixture of alcohols (butanol, isobutanol, isopropanol and ethanol) and acetone. Via chemical and enzymatic conversion, a pallet of chemicals will be produced from these fermentation products, providing important biobased precursors for the chemical industry.
